Glossary

Manchester FA's Football Governance team have compiled a glossary, to clarify the meaning of any terminology that you may see or hear when contacting us.

 

Affiliation/Affiliation Number (uses) – A number issued to a club for a season to allow them to register to a league. Season 2009/10’s affiliation numbers begin with a G.

Associated Member – An individual, usually a player, who is attached or registered to a club. This is often as a result of having been named in a disciplinary case or by information provided by leagues.

CAS (County Administrative System) - The system used by County Football Associations for football administration

Closed Dates – Dates when a referee or referee assessor is not available

Club ID Number – A unique identity number issued by The FA to a club.

Continuing Misconduct – A charge that is raised when a player incurs 5, 10, 15, 20 etc cautions in a season, or when a player receives more than one standard charge over the course of a season

Disciplinary Points System – A system put in place to try and encourage clubs to improve their discipline records. Any discipline (cautions, send offs, misconduct) issued to a club or its players will result in penalty points being added to the club’s records. A club will be punished if they receive excessive penalty points.

FAN Number (formally NPD) – A unique identity number issued by The FA to a participant.

Full-Time - is The FA's free league admin tool. Full-time is used by league officials to manage the day to day running of a league as well as generating a website for tables, results, news, statistics and more.

Members Services - Online services available to Clubs, Leagues, Referees and Coaches - keep up to date with your Grassroots football by logging into your area of members services

Misconduct – An offence type that does not carry a standard charge. These can relate to incidents that take place on or off the field of play

NDO (Non-disciplinary Offence) – also known as a Non-field offence or a cup/competition fine. The offence type, fine, and late fine are defined by the County FA. An example of an NDO could be Failing to return a Result Sheet from a county cup fixture

Sine-Die Suspensions – When a club disbands, any money owed is split equally between all associated members registered at the time of disbanding. The individuals are placed under suspension and remain suspended until the debt owed to the County FA has been paid off. Individuals receive notice of this Sine-Die suspension before it commences.

Standard Charge – An offence that carries a standard offer of punishment and suspension. e.g. Violent Conduct – 35 Day suspension

Walkover – Should a team have to forfeit a Cup fixture, their opponents are awarded the tie and placed into the next round.
