Manchester & Liverpool United

A match to highlight the major issue of homelessness in our city.

While some may have thought the big match between Manchester and Liverpool was scheduled for this weekend it was actually last weekend, when Liverpool Homeless Football Club hosted Manchester's Equality FC to raise awareness about homelessness in both major cities. The event also coincided with World Homeless Day on Tuesday 10 October.

Homelessness is an ever-growing issue in the two North West areas and the match provided a platform to showcase the great work that both Liverpool Homeless FC and Equality FC continue to achieve in their communities, by using football as an opportunity to have a positive effect on homeless people's lives.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of Liverpool City Region and Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, laced up for their respective teams to show their support at Walton Hall Park.

More experienced at the 11v11 format, Liverpool were too strong on the day, winning 8-3 after they blitzed the second half. Equality FC's skipper, James was named 'Man of the Match' (or Tazan as nicknamed by the commentary team).

Manchester FA's Recreational Football Development Officer, Sarah Venning who witnessed the event said; "Congratulations to Liverpool Homeless FC for organising such a terrific match against Equality FC. Both teams were able to showcase their talents and achievements in front of an impressive crowd.

"The positive impacts that teams like LHFC and Equality FC have on their players lives really cannot be underestimated."
