Wildcats Initiative Launches

The FA and SSE developed the Wildcats initiative in order to create a sustainable football offer to inspire girls aged between 5-11 to play the beautiful game. SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centres provide girls with regular opportunities to play football and take part in organised sessions in a fun and engaging environment. In 2018, over 800 centres took part, getting over 20,000 girls’ playing football. The FA are now looking for even more organisations to take part and support their mission to double girls’ participation by 2020.

SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football has been established in partnership with SSE, supporters of girls’ football participation and sponsor of the SSE Women’s FA Cup, with support from UEFA, FIFA and The Youth Sport Trust.
The purpose of the programme is to provide a setting for Girls’ aged 5-11 to have Fun, make Friends, and play Football. The Football Association and SSE teamed up to launch the initiative in 2017, and the SSE Wildcats programme has shown huge success nationally in inspiring Primary School aged girls to be involved in the sport.
In Manchester, the programme provided 6 Centre’s in 2017, which grew to 20 in 2018 with lots of clubs joining the initiative. With the application window now open for 2019, Manchester FA are keen to hear from you if you would like to host the programme within your club or local area. The commitment from applicants is to provide girls with regular opportunities to play football. The sessions must take place on a weekly basis, either after school or at weekends, subject to the local organiser. They will provide a safe environment where girls with no football experience can; have fun engaging with sport, develop fundamental skills, try a variety of sessions, learn new things and create foundations for a lifelong love of sport.
