Bernard Halford

The Bernard Halford Club Secretary of the Year Award

Nominations now open for inaugural award

Last September, Manchester FA announced that 2020 would see the advent of The Bernard Halford Club Secretary of the Year Award.

The award is named in honour of Bernard Halford, who passed away last year at the age of 77. Bernard, who was affectionately known as ‘Mr Manchester City’, was renowned as a fan of the game at all levels; his passion for development within grassroots football matched by his love of the professional game.

Bernard served as Manchester FA’s Representative to the Football Association between 2005 and 2016, and received an Honourary Life Membership from Manchester FA in 2016. Bernard was also recognised by The FA for his 50 years of service to the game in 2010.

Manchester FA is now seeking nominations from member clubs for the first winner of The Bernard Halford Club Secretary of the Year Award. Nominees should be able to illustrate how they have driven positive change within their club, and supported volunteers in an effective way.

There are many club secretaries across Greater Manchester who exhibit those qualities, and we are looking forward to reading your nominations in the coming weeks.
