The Metrolink network provides transport across Greater Manchester, with lines to Eccles, Altrincham, Bury, MediaCityUK, East Didsbury, Rochdale, Oldham and Droylsden.
With more lines scheduled to open, Metrolink is committed to making a real difference to grassroots football through its expanding network, making it even easier to travel to and from training sessions and matches on the tram.
Over the last few years, Metrolink’s partnership with the Manchester FA has evolved, and now incorporates many initiatives that target all aspects of grassroots football and are of benefit to all players, their families, clubs and fans within the city.
Well established is the Metrolink Team of the Month Award, which recognises and rewards inspiring teams across Greater Manchester, providing a positive and visible presence each and every month throughout the season.
During the 2013/14 campaign, Metrolink will also be involved in two exciting new campaigns, details of which can be found below.
Metrolink Coaching Campaign
Working in conjunction with Manchester FA, Metrolink will support 24 grassroots coaches in gaining their FA Level 1 Award. The coaching course will ensure that players benefit from the latest coaching skills while developing their talent, as well as supporting the creation of new teams within clubs.
Metrolink VIP Programme
This initiative will be especially aimed at the unsung heroes of grassroots football - the volunteers within clubs who work relentlessly with little or sometimes no recognition. By joining forces, Metrolink and Manchester FA hope to recruit new volunteers, provide necessary training that will assist in their role and reward volunteers for their service, with retention a key element.
The Metrolink/Manchester FA partnership has an exciting future ahead, with a host of new initiatives planned, including competitions for youngsters to be mascots at FA cup matches and sponsorship of the annual grassroots dinner, all of which reaffirms Metrolink's commitment to grassroots football.
