Chris Kavanagh, Manchester FA's first Premier League Referee!

Good luck, Chris!

Chris Kavanagh will referee the 2018 Buildbase FA Trophy Final at Wembley this weekend.

Manchester FA's first Premier League Referee, Chris Kavanagh, will be taking charge of The Buildbase FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium this Sunday afternoon as part of 'Non-League Finals Day'.

The 2017/18 season has been a whirlwind for 'Kav' who cut his teeth in the grassroots leagues across Greater Manchester and his progression has now seen him appointed to 15 matches in the English top-flight.

The successes of his first season haven't gone unnoticed by The FA and PGMOL, who have given him the opportunity to officiate the match between Brackley Town and Bromley.

Ahead of the occasion, Kavanagh commented: "Having been fortunate enough to officiate at Wembley twice before, I'm massively looking forward to refereeing my first Final. It's always a massive honour to be appointed to such a prestigious occasion by The FA so I can't wait. I'm really pleased with the way things have gone overall this season so to finish it in style is the icing on the cake for me."

On behalf of Manchester FA, Referee Development Officer Tom Elliott said: "Everyone connected with refereeing in Greater Manchester is delighted for Chris. The way he has taken to life at the pinnacle of the game has been incredible to watch and to become a familiar face in just his first season shows just how well he has done.

"What stands out more than anything to me though is how grounded he remains. This year he has attended every referee course and supported countless events that we hold just to support and inspire the next generation. I have no doubt that Chris will do brilliantly on Sunday and I will be extremely proud watching!"

The FA Trophy Final is the second installment on Non-League Finals Day which sees The FA Vase Final take place in the morning. At stake for The FA Trophy Final is £60,000 in prize money along with an unforgettable moment in any non-league club’s history.

Kick-off for Chris' fixture is at 4:15pm and the match will be live on BT Sport 1.

The very best of luck, Kav. Doing Manchester proud once again!
