The first round of the Manchester FA Frank Hannah Premier Cup took place at the Vestacare Stadium which saw Avro FC take on visitors, Hyde United FC.

Avro battle to a 2-0 victory over Hyde United, in an absorbing first round Premier Cup contest.

The blues dominated the first half with early threats from Ellis, Crothers, and Joe Rathbone but their deliveries were constantly palmed away by a resolute Hyde backline. Long spells of possession for Avro slowed down the momentum for the visitors as the hosts stopped Hyde United from creating any clear chances.

However, a determined Hyde United did eventually pick up the pace and managed to conjure good opportunities from Whittingham and Ditchfield. Chikukwa came closest to opening the scoring just before the break with his header crashing against the bar as the score remained 0-0 at half time.

After the break, urgency grew from Avro leading the hosts to a fast start to the half. A defensive header landed at the feet of Rother in the 47th minute with his strike beating the keeper to give his side the lead.

Substitutes made their way on the pitch after the 50th minute from both sides as the managers got fresh legs on to the pitch. However, Avro continued to frustrate Hyde, breaking down any attacks and continuing to dominate the game.

A lift of the ball over the defence from Avro’s Wallwork caused a mix-up between the Hyde defence and goalkeeper with Avro Striker McCarthy gleefully taking advantage by slotting the ball into the empty Hyde net in the 71st minute.

With a 2-0 win and a clean sheet, Avro progress into the quarter finals of the competition, which will be played next month.
