Irlam FC win the Manchester FA U18 Boys Youth Cup

Irlam have won the Boys Under 18 Youth Cup after a a 3-0 victory against Curzon Ashton.

Irlam began the game strongly with a few chances on goal- scoring the opener in the third minute with a stunning goal from Appleton.

It was then a case of a midfield battle between the two teams for the majority of the first half. Both teams did have a variety of chances throughout, but neither could capitalise on these opportunities. Irlam forced the Curzon keeper to produce a few saves to keep them in the game going into the second half.

The beginning of the second half saw Irlam have a few attacking spells which were dealt with effectively by the Curzon Ashton defence. This was followed by a flurry of chances at both ends over a 15-minute period- one notable moment being an excellent tackle from Varey who made up a lot of ground and prevented an Irlam shot on goal.

Curzon had an excellent chance to get the equaliser as Kvaternik hit the crossbar from long range. This however was nullified shortly after by Irlam who dispossessed Curzon in their own half and then got their second through Sambizi after he ran past two defenders and lifted it over the keeper.

With less than 10 minutes left, Curzon attempted to bring themselves back into the game with a shot that was hit over the bar, but Irlam further extended their lead in the 85th minute through Kenny with a right footed curling effort into the far corner of the net.

Irlam FC won the county cup as U16s last season- meaning this is their second successive county cup win. Huge congratulations Irlam!
