Restart a Heart Day

Restart a Heart Day

Get hands on with CPR

On Friday 16 October, we’ll be joining our friends at the North West Ambulance Service to mark Restart a Heart Day and encourage everybody to learn CPR.

Sudden cardiac arrests happen every day, many of them out of hospital. In the UK, just one in ten people survive.

One day, you might witness someone collapse and stop breathing in your home or when you’re out in public – and you could be the only person there who can help them.

Reports show that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the chance of survival in many countries might have decreased further because fewer bystanders are intervening when they see someone that has collapsed and stopped breathing.

Standing alongside the North West Ambulance Service, we’re urging everyone to learn CPR right now. Because right now, even during the pandemic, there are people across this country who will need you to perform CPR if they have a cardiac arrest.

It's time to learn CPR right now, because you never know when you might need to use your skills.

By learning CPR and using your skills in an emergency, you're giving the person their best chance of survival.

HOW TO GIVE CPR SAFELY

Resuscitation Council UK has created this short film to show you how to give CPR safely during this time.

Please watch – for someone in cardiac arrest, it could mean the difference between life and death.
