Curzon Ashton crowned U16 Champions
Our latest final saw Curzon Ashton face Manchester Cobras at Abbey Hey with a chance to win the U16s Boys Youth Cup.
The finale had both teams battling out for the trophy with an attacking style of play from the beginning of the whistle. Despite many chances for both the hosts and the visitors, neither side were able to execute any chances from missed set pieces and shots going wide.
A composed Curzon Ashton were able to dominate the end of the first half a little more than the Cobras but unfortunately both teams ended up being goalless by the whistle.
The Cobras were much more composed in the second as the reds opted for changes to freshen the side up and amped up the pace after the break.
A long spell of both teams sharing possession took place as they were unable to break the deadlock, manifesting the goalless scoreline until the full-time whistle.
Following a tightly contested fixture, the tie would be decided by a penalty shootout, where Curzon Ashton won 6-5 after sudden death which saw both sides take eight penalties each.
