Playoff Double for MFA Referees
Manchester FA is delighted to learn that two of it’s Senior Match Officials have been awarded appointments in arguably the most significant matches of the EFL season, the Play-Off Finals.
Referee Chris Kavanagh will take charge of the EFL Championship Play-Off Final between Brentford and Swansea on Saturday 29th May at 3pm, whilst Wade Smith will act as Assistant Referee for the League 1 Play-Off Final on Sunday May 30th at 3pm between Lincoln City and Blackpool.
For Wade, it’ll be the second trip to Wembley in as many weeks after being appointed to the FA Vase Final and capping what has been a remarkable season.
Kavanagh is also no stranger to the hallowed turf, after most recently taking charge of Leicester’s victory over Southampton on the way to their FA Cup success this term.
‘For Manchester FA to have two officials entrusted with such important fixtures is a major coup’, said Referee Development Officer Tom Elliott. ‘Both Wade and Chris are thoroughly deserving of these appointments and I have no doubt will do a brilliant job’, he continued.
‘What most people don’t see is the hard work and dedication that these two put in week in, week out and so I’m delighted to see them recognised this way. They are both very popular members of the MFA Refereeing community and will have our full support at the weekend!’
A huge congratulations and good luck to all the teams and match officials involved during the Bank Holiday Play-Off fixtures!
